Custom Bed Sheets: How to Order Sheets for Any Bed Size

You picked the mattress you actually wanted. Then you spent three weekends hunting for sheets that fit it, gave up, and tucked in something a size too big that balls up by morning. If your bed is deeper, wider, or just shaped differently from the labels printed on store packaging, custom bed sheets are the real fix. Here is how made-to-measure sheets work, exactly what to measure, and how to order a set that fits on the first try.

Quick answerCustom bed sheets are sewn to the exact width, length, and mattress depth you give us, instead of a fixed size label. At SGI you choose the fabric, enter your three measurements, pick a color, and we cut the set to fit. Cotton custom size sheets start at $124.99 and bamboo at $84.99.

When standard sheets just will not fit

Most bedding is built for eight or nine printed sizes. Real beds do not always cooperate. If you have fought a sheet that slides off the corner at 3am, one of these is usually why:

  • ✓Deep or pillow-top mattresses. A regular fitted sheet has a shallow pocket, so it pops off thick beds. Custom fitted sheets are cut to your real depth and stay anchored.
  • ✓Oversized frames. Alaskan, Wyoming, and Texas King beds run wider than a regular King, and no mainstream size covers them. Our oversized bed sheets collection is built for exactly these.
  • ✓Antique, handmade, or imported frames. Old iron beds and European mattresses rarely line up with US sizing charts.
  • ✓Odd shapes. Round beds, boat V-berths, and RV short queens each need a different cut. We cover those with dedicated round bed sheets, V-berth boat sheets, and RV bedding guides too.
  • ✓Platform, bunk, and loft beds. A thinner mattress leaves a standard sheet swimming with loose fabric.

If any of that sounds like your bedroom, a standard set will always be a compromise. Custom size sheets remove the guesswork completely.

How to order custom sheets at SGI

The whole thing takes about five minutes and a tape measure. Four steps:

  • 1.Measure the mattress. Width, length, and depth in inches. The next section shows exactly where to put the tape.
  • 2.Pick your fabric. Crisp cotton for a hotel feel, or bamboo if you sleep hot. Both are made to order.
  • 3.Choose a color. Cotton comes in nine shades, bamboo in four.
  • 4.Enter your numbers and order. We cut and sew the set to those exact measurements. No standard-size rounding.

How to measure your mattress

Three numbers decide the whole fit. Strip the bed first so you are measuring the mattress itself, not the bedding on top of it.

Mattress (top view) Width Length Side view Depth
Three measurements: width and length from the top, depth from the side.
  • ✓Width. Side to side, straight across the top surface.
  • ✓Length. Head to foot, along the long edge.
  • ✓Depth. From the top surface straight down to where the mattress meets the frame. If you sleep on a topper, add its height too, since the custom mattress sheet has to clear both.

One tip: round each number up to the nearest inch. A sheet with a hair of room is easy to tuck. One cut a half inch short never sits right.

Fabric and thread count options

Every SGI made-to-measure sheet set is cut to order in one of these. Still unsure on numbers? Our thread count guide breaks down what actually matters.

Fabric Best for From Colors
600TC Egyptian cotton Crisp, breathable, hotel feel $124.99 9
100% bamboo viscose Silky and cooling for hot sleepers $84.99 4
Custom mattress protector Waterproof layer, same measurements $64.99 4

A good move is to order the protector in the same custom size as your sheets, so your whole stack fits the bed instead of just the top layer.

Caring for custom sheets

Custom sets wash like any quality set of the same fabric. Machine wash cold or warm on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low, and take them out slightly early to cut wrinkling. Skip bleach on every color, and skip fabric softener on bamboo, which can coat the fibers and dull that cool, silky hand over time. Washing cold also protects the fit, since hot water is what shrinks a sheet out of its measurements.

A few common questions

Can I get sheets for an antique or non-standard bed?

Yes. That is the whole point of custom bed sheets. As long as you can measure the mattress, we can cut a set to those numbers, even for old or imported frames that match no US size.

How do I measure depth for a pillow-top mattress?

Measure from the very top of the pillow-top down to where the mattress meets the frame. If you also use a separate topper you sleep on nightly, add its height so the custom fitted sheets clear the full stack.

Can I order custom sheets for an Alaskan, Wyoming, or Texas King?

Yes. Those oversized frames are a core part of what we do. Start with the oversized bed sheets collection, and if your frame is still outside those, send us your measurements for a fully made-to-measure set.

What fabrics can custom sheets be made in?

Two: 600 thread count Egyptian cotton and 100% bamboo viscose. Cotton is the crisp, classic choice, bamboo is the cooler one for hot sleepers.
