Bed sheet size chart for every US mattress size

Bed Sheet Size Chart: Every US Mattress Size Explained

Twin, Full, Queen, King, then Cal King, Split King, Wyoming King, RV Short Queen. The names pile up fast, and a sheet that fits one can be inches off another. This bed sheet size chart lays out every US mattress size in one place, with the real dimensions, so you can match your bed to the right sheet the first time.

Quick answerA sheet's size is set by your mattress width and length. The seven standard US mattress sizes run from Twin (38" x 75") up to California King (72" x 84"). Beyond those sit oversized beds like Wyoming, Texas, and Alaskan King, plus specialty shapes for RVs, boats, and round beds. Find your width and length in the chart below, then match the name to a sheet.

The standard US bed sheet size chart

These are the seven sizes nearly every mattress and sheet brand stocks. Dimensions are width by length in inches. The names are consistent across US brands, so once you know your size here, a standard set will fit.

Size Width x Length Best for
Twin 38" x 75" Kids, single sleepers
Twin XL 38" x 80" Dorms, taller teens
Full (Double) 54" x 75" Solo adults, guest rooms
Full XL 54" x 80" Taller solo sleepers
Queen 60" x 80" Couples, most common size
King (Eastern) 76" x 80" Couples wanting width
California King 72" x 84" Tall sleepers, narrow rooms

A couple of these trip people up constantly. A King and a California King hold the same square footage but in different shapes: the King is 4 inches wider, the Cal King is 4 inches longer. And Queen is where most shopping happens, so if that's you, the queen sheet sets guide goes deeper on fit and fabric. Need the broader King picture, standard versus Cal versus split? The king size bed sheets guide covers all three. Smaller end of the chart, the full size sheets guide sorts out Full versus Full XL.

Oversized king sizes (bigger than a standard King)

This is where the standard chart ends and most retailers stop. If your bed is bigger than a King, it's one of these oversized king sizes, and ordinary King sheets will leave corners bare. These are the dimensions to match.

Size Width x Length
Wyoming King 84" x 84"
Texas King 80" x 98"
Alaskan King 108" x 108"
Alberta King 96" x 96"

Not sure which one you own? The Alaskan vs Wyoming vs Texas King breakdown helps you tell them apart. All of these need purpose-cut oversized bed sheets, since no standard set stretches that far.

Specialty and non-standard sizes

Some beds don't live on the standard chart at all. Their dimensions vary by make and model, so measure yours and match it rather than assuming. Here's where each one points.

  • ✓RV and camper beds. The RV Short Queen (60" x 75") is the one that catches people out, five inches shorter than a regular Queen. See the RV sheet sizes guide.
  • ✓Round beds. Measured by diameter, usually 76", 80", or 84". The round bed sheets guide explains how to measure a circle.
  • ✓Boat V-berths. Tapered to the bow, so no rectangular size fits. The V-berth sheets guide walks through it.
  • ✓Split and adjustable beds. A Split King is two Twin XL halves (38" x 80" each). Check the split top king sheets guide.

Don't forget depth

Width and length name your size, but they don't tell the whole story. Two Queens can be 9 inches thick or 16 inches thick, and a sheet pocket built for the shallow one won't hold the deep one. After you find your size in the bed sheet size chart, check your mattress depth too and buy a pocket about 2 to 3 inches deeper than that measurement, so the elastic can wrap underneath and stay put.

When your bed isn't on the chart

Antique frames, imported mattresses, built-in bunks, and one-off builds often land between sizes. Forcing the nearest name is how you end up with sheets that bunch or pop off. When nothing on the mattress size chart matches, order custom size sheets cut to your exact width, length, and depth instead.

A few common questions

What are the standard US bed sheet sizes?

The seven standard sizes are Twin, Twin XL, Full, Full XL, Queen, King, and California King. They run from 38" x 75" up to 72" x 84", and the names match across US brands.

What is the biggest bed sheet size?

Among common beds, the Alaskan King is the largest at 108" x 108". It sits well above standard King and needs oversized sheets, since regular King sets won't reach.

Are King and California King sheets the same?

No. A King is 76" x 80" and a California King is 72" x 84". They're close in area but different in shape, so the sheets are not interchangeable.

What if my mattress size isn't on the chart?

Measure the width, length, and depth and order custom size sheets made to those numbers. That's the fix for RV, boat, antique, and oversized beds that fall between standard sizes.
